The origins of the Masseria Fortificata San Francesco can be traced back to 1600
The Masseria Fortificata San Francesco rises in Matera, known in the century as the City of Stone and considered among the oldest in the world, whose history seems to come from the pen of a novelist.
The Masseria Fortificata represents a living testimony of the extraordinary adventure and human presence in the area, documented from prehistory to the present day, without temporal discontinuities.
The original nucleus on which the Masseria currently stands dates back to the distant 1600s, proven by the presence of an ancient square tower, built as an observation and sighting tower for the Bradano Valley.
Over time, new nucleuses of different dates have been built on it, aimed at redeveloping and enhancing all the beauty and authenticity of the ancient remains.
